Praying with St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is error, truth;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, Grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

How beautiful the words of someone that was perhaps deeply troubled by the brokenness of the world but passionately calling for the beauty of the kingdom.

God, my sovereign Creator, the One to which I owe more than I can muster, the One I seek to glorify in my every action, instill in us a fire to lead lives of peace and love, forgiveness and compassion, faith and hope, truth and wisdom.  Let us be a people after Your heart, living as though we are citizens of a Kingdom not of this earth.
